Last year you started the morning at Ocean Beach and promised yourself more weekend walks. Today may be an ordinary Sunday, until that sentence appears again. In Gemi, a past entry from the same calendar date appears beneath today’s writing area; open it to read what you actually wrote then.
The same date, another year
This needs an entry from a previous year on the same month and day. In the English demonstration, an On This Day in History card says “1 year ago” below the writing area. Open it and you get the original image, words, and place, rather than a new summary of them.

It is normal for a day to have no card. Perhaps you have not kept the journal for a year, or perhaps you did not write on this date before. The writing page may also give priority to a more recent related memory, so a matching old entry will not always occupy the same spot. When you want to look for a date deliberately, use the calendar.
An encounter you did not schedule
The card is deliberately small at first. It gives you a line from the past and an age for the memory, leaving the rest for the tap. The opened demo entry shows a solitary figure on a grey beach, the original date, and the words about making time for walks. Seeing the photograph beside the sentence changes it more than a reminder notification could. You get the old entry itself, with whatever context you chose to save at the time.
That first line may be enough to tell you whether you want to open it now. Perhaps the morning is busy, or perhaps the old entry is tender and you would rather wait. The card does not ask you to write a comparison. When you do open it, the original date gives the words their place: a promise made on a quiet beach is different from the same sentence written after a crowded trip. The memory is yours to read at your own pace.
The calendar begins with a date you remember. On This Day begins with today’s date and an older entry you might have forgotten. Both depend on the date attached to the saved entry. If you wrote about a trip two days late but dated it to the travel day, that is the day on which it belongs. Checking the date when you save a backdated entry matters to future revisits as much as it matters today.
If there is no entry for today’s date but you want to browse, Memories moves through past writing without a date in mind. Review can take you by people or places. The raw material for all of them is what you chose to save in the first place.
